SMVB Chapter 67

After the filming, Su Tian dragged He Qingwan to go find Ji Shaoheng to visit the sick and little gege at the hospital.

This was the chance that Ji Shaoheng was looking for. He quickly agreed before secretly sending the little brat a text message:

【Tiantian is heading to the hospital to see you.】

In the corner of the TV station, the youth who was tightly bundled up like a robber took out his cell phone. He read the text message and immediately sprinted out.

He Qingwan originally wanted to take all the children together, but You Pinyan and the other two shook their heads to decline, saying that they wanted to take a stroll around the capital.

He Qingwan couldn’t rest assured. How could she let three children walk around without an adult to watch over them?

Su Tian: “I’ll call Zhang Yingni and ask if she has time to take them out to play.”

He Qingwan hesitated. “Does Nini have time?”

Su Tian: “I’ll ask.”

She called Zhang Yingni, who pretentiously disdained her a bit before finally ‘reluctantly’ agreeing.

Su Tian gave Zhang Yingni and You Pinyan the other party’s contact information and asked them to reach out to each other on their own. Only then did He Qingwan relax–at least there was no need to worry about the children getting lost with a local coming with them.

Ji Shaoheng gave Su Tian a ‘nice job’ gesture and hurriedly urged the two to get in the car.

Su Tian inwardly rolled her eyes.

You Pinyan brought the two boys to watch Ji Shaoheng’s car disappear before hurriedly returning to the building housing the TV station.

They didn’t join in because first, the other parties’ families were meeting, and it wouldn’t be good if they followed, and second…

Humph, don’t think that they didn’t hear the conversation between Bai Qiyuan and Ji Shaoheng.

Daring to say that Tiantian was strange! Clearly he’s the one who was strange.

Bai Qiyuan finished his work. He held a suit jacket in his hand, whistling as he got ready to head home.

He arrived at the underground parking lot and was just about to start driving when he was startled by the three figures that suddenly jumped out.

With a yelp, he looked at the three expressionless figures and asked, “Where’s Ji Shaoheng? Why didn’t you three go with him?”

His response was Liu Kaiyan’s blank face, Xi Yun’s seething gaze, and…

The Young Miss’s smack against his car door.

Leaning against the car door, she said, “I’m warning you: in the future, don’t say in front of Ji Shaoheng that Tiantian isn’t good.”

Bai Qiyuan was stunned. He looked at the girl in front of him and smiled playfully. “When did I say that Su Tian isn’t good?”

You Pinyan’s eyes opened wide. She fumed, “You said Tiantian was strange and told Ji Shaoheng to keep an eye out. Did you think we didn’t hear it?”

Bai Qiyuan loosened his shirt collar, retorting, “I see you guys are also pretty strange.”

He shook his head and sighed. “Young people nowadays, why are they all so odd and strange? Ai, it’s a gap, a generation gap…”

You Pinyan: “Hey, be less pretentious. If you dare to speak ill of Tiantian again, I’ll make it impossible for you to live well in this TV station.”

Xi Yun spoke from behind her, “Yeah, you’re not allowed to say bad things about jiejie.”

Although Liu Kaiyan didn’t say anything, his attitude was clearly along the same vein.

Bai Qiyuan was really laughing now. These little white-eyed wolves, did they forget who had helped them just now? So righteously1 turning against their benefactor2!

“Okay, okay,” he raised his hands in surrender, “if you won’t let me speak ill of Su Tian, you’ll need to tell me what kind of person she is, right?”

He was curious–this little girl in her teens, just what kind of magic did she have that made others defend her so fervently.

His gaze alternated among the three before finally falling on You Pinyan. He pointed to her. “You first.”

You Pinyan was completely unaware that she had already been led by the nose. She proudly flaunted, “Tiantian is super good…”

Su Tian followed Ji Shaoheng to the hospital. Before she passed through the door, she spotted a tightly bundled up youth sitting on the bed.

Ji Shaoheng unceremoniously opened the door and walked in. The youth saw the three and hurriedly stood to his feet.

Ji Shaoheng began the introductions. “This is Ji Hang. His allergies haven’t subsided, so he can’t take off his mask. Ji Hang, this is Auntie He and Tiantian meimei.”

The boy greeted Su Tian and He Qingwan in a low voice. His gaze stopped on Su Tian, and he said, looking a little shy, “Thank you for the hat, I like it very much.”

Su Tian smiled. “And I like the clownfish you gave me.”

After a simple greeting, Su Tian suddenly said, “Mom, I want a soda, can you buy one for me?”

He Qingwan looked helpless. “Another soda? It’s so cold today…”

Su Tian acted coquettish. “You can’t? I haven’t had one this month…”

Ji Shaoheng coughed. “Since Tiantian wants a soda, why don’t we go buy a bottle? There are some for sale downstairs.”

Helpless, He Qingwan poked Su Tian’s forehead before following Ji Shaoheng downstairs.

When she came out, He Qingwan was a bit confused. She could just buy one herself. Why did she come out together with Ji Shaoheng?

At the sight of her reaction, Ji Shaoheng hurriedly stopped her words asking him to go back. “Xiao Hang has had no friends since he was a child, and Tiantian is very popular with people. It wouldn’t be easy for them to talk freely with us nearby…”

He Qingwan: “Actually, Tiantian didn’t have many friends, either. But after moving to Luocheng, she suddenly liked making friends. I hope they can get along.”

After sending away the adults, Su Tian turned her head, just in time to catch the youth’s gaze that he hadn’t managed to retract in time.

Su Tian’s eyes fell on the fruit next to the youth, who immediately offered, “Do you want an orange? I’ll peel it for you…”

The boy immediately picked up an orange and nimbly peeled the skin.

Su Tian didn’t refuse and expressed her thanks.

His hands were beautiful, both clean and slender, and his action of peeling an orange was especially pleasing to the eye.

Su Tian watched him peel the orange while asking, “Do you like clownfish too?”

The youth nodded. “I’m raising one at home. Do you want to see it?”

Huh?

She grew interested and asked, “Is it an ocean aquarium?”

The youth immediately nodded his head. “A really big one, with sea anemone, coral, and an octopus. If you want to see it, I can bring you to see it.”

Su Tian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “You’re still in the hospital.”

The youth: “It’s fine, I’ve already had my medicine today. And I have the hat you gave me, so I’m not afraid of being exposed to the sun outside.”

Su Tian thought about it. She really was a bit tempted, but what if He Qingwan came back and found that she was missing?

As she was hesitating, the youth had already taken out a pen and paper, on which he wrote:

【Bringing Tiantian back home to see the fish. Will be back later.】

Then he insistently pulled Su Tian up and dragged her out.

Su Tian: “…”

Forget it, just use the opportunity to see if Ji Shaoheng had anything at home that had been left behind by a woman.

Wary of bumping into He Qingwan and Ji Shaoheng, the two specially avoided the commonly used passages and left the hospital through the back door.

They jumped into a taxi. Yu Cai heard Su Tian’s breathing from beside him and felt his heart pound.

He knew that Su Tian didn’t like Yu Cai, and he was afraid that she would automatically erect a defensive barrier upon seeing him, so he specially told Ji Shaoheng to call him by another name.

He was Yu Cai, and also Ji Hang.

The former name was given to him by his biological parents, and the latter was given to him when Ji Shaoheng adopted him.

Like this, it wasn’t considered lying to her, right?

Yu Cai was actually feeling quite nervous.

The two who had escaped from the hospital received calls from their respective parents and were given a scolding. In the end, with no other alternatives, they warned the children to pay attention to safety, to come back early, and to not run around.

Su Tian responded to each set of instructions.

Before hanging up the phone, He Qingwan reminded her to watch the little gege closely and keep him out of the sunlight.

Su Tian promised she would.

When they finally came to his home, the youth opened the door and gestured for Su Tian to come in.

As soon as she stepped inside, she spotted in the living room a fish tank nearly the size of the wall.

The youth drew the curtains to block out the sunlight and switched on the fish tank lights.

With a click, the mysterious ocean-blue light illuminated the room.

Gorgeous sea fish in many colors, fluorescent coral and sea anemone, cute hermit crabs, a starfish buried in the sand…

“So beautiful…”

Su Tian exclaimed as she walked over and instantly spotted a clownfish waggling its head and swimming right in front of the fish tank wall.

She smiled, reached up to tap the glass, and whispered, “Hi, Nemo.”

It was like time had gone backwards.

The youth stood beside her, watching. This scene almost completely overlapped with the scene when he first saw her.

The youth blurted out, “If you live in my house in the future, this is all yours.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the face under the mask instantly grew hot enough to give off smoke.

Su Tian was stunned and lifted her head.

The youth stared at her, his mind going blank. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.

Su Tian stared back before suddenly breaking into a smile. She asked in a mysterious tone, “Uncle Ji told you that he likes my mom?”

!

After a moment of pause, the youth finally realized that his words could also be interpreted this way. For a while, he didn’t know whether he was sobered up or disappointed.

He nodded.

Su Tian: “You don’t object?”

The youth: “I’m not his biological son. When I become an adult, I’ll transfer out my household registration. He can marry whoever he wants. Also…”

After a pause, he continued, “I like Auntie He. And…”

He turned away and quickly spat out the words, “…and you.”

The boy’s shyness was so apparent that Su Tian couldn’t help laughing.

But fearing that he would feel even more embarrassed, Su Tian didn’t dare to laugh anymore and continued to marvel at the beautiful scenery in the fish tank.

The youth let out a sigh of relief. Once the heat in his face cooled, he asked, “Do you want to feed them?”

Su Tian: “Can I?”

The youth nodded. He opened the cabinet below the tank and took out the dried fish food. After thawing the shrimp in the kitchen, he taught her how to feed the fish.

“About this much, you put it in the feeding ring3. This is for the fish to…”

Su Tian followed his directions and placed the fish food in little by little, then watched the fish in the tank swarm over and scramble for a bite.

“Nemo is so fierce! He doesn’t let other fish eat.” She watched Nemo and smiled.

The youth was staring at her profile. “Mn, he’s the fishtank tyrant, big and bullying the other fish.”

Finally, when Nemo was full, the other fish could eat in peace.

After they fed the fish, the youth taught her how to feed the coral and sea anemone.

Su Tian didn’t know how to use the feeder, so the youth held her hand and taught her.

Fortunately, he was wearing a mask and hat, and the darkness hid his blushing face.

Tiantian’s hands were so soft, so smooth…

He really wanted to lean down and take a bite.

Su Tian released the shrimp meat near the mouth of the sea anemone and watched in shock as they opened their mouths and sucked in the food bit by bit.

This was the first time she had seen a sea anemone eat. So magical!

While feeding the second sea anemone, the shrimp meat was snatched by an uninvited guest–an octopus the size of a ping pong ball. Its body was covered in blue rings that emitted a beautiful fluorescent color under the light. The sight was both gorgeous and cute.

Su Tian let out a wow. “There’s an octopus inside.”

The youth nodded. “He’s called a blue-ringed octopus4. Isn’t he cute?”

Su Tian: “…!”

She froze. Blue-ringed octopus? Was it the blue-ringed octopus she was thinking of?

She asked tentatively, “Aren’t blue-ringed octopuses venomous?”

Moreover, it was one of the most venomous creatures on Earth, carrying enough venom to kill 26 people.

The youth: “You don’t have to be afraid. He doesn’t normally attack people. And he can’t escape this fish tank.”

Sometimes, he would take him out and play with him for a while, but Yu Cai didn’t dare to say that.

Only then did Su Tian let out a sigh of relief. Although she’d died once, she still hadn’t had enough of life!

But she had to say, this octopus really was extremely beautiful and cute.

Just like Nemo, he was a fishtank tyrant, and he liked to snatch the shrimp meat from the sea anemone.

Su Tian tried to poke him with the feeder, and it immediately stretched out two of its tentacles and covered its head shyly, like the young man. It used the rest of its tentacles to scuttle across the sand and hide under a stone, leaving only a pair of black eyes peeking out.

Wow, so cute!

Su Tian felt like her heart was melting.

What a beautiful, cute, shy, and extremely dangerous creature.

The youth added, “He also has a name.”

Su Tian stared at the octopus. “What’s his name?”

The youth: “Xiuxiu.”

Su Tian couldn’t help laughing again.

This name was really fitting. Xiuxiu–certainly, it was a shy little octopus5.

She poked Xiuxiu with the feeder again, coaxing with a smile, “Xiuxiu, you’re so shy. Did you learn it from your owner?”

The youth’s face instantly heated up again.

He looked at Su Tian, wordlessly opening his mouth several times.

Tiantian is too mean, he thought, how could she tease him like this?

Really, so mean.

[1] 理直气壮: in the right and self-confident

[2] 忘恩负义: to forget favors and violate justice; to kick a benefactor in the teeth

[3] 喂食圈: a ring that floats on the surface. You can place the fish food inside, and the ring stops the fish food from spread out and floating away

Source: fishlab

[4] Genus Hapalochlaena, home to a total of 4 species. Highly venomous! Do not touch!! (Fun fact, most of the websites about raising octopus at home specifically advise against keeping a blue-ringed octopus at home. Tsk tsk, Yu Cai 🙄)

Source: healthline

[5] 羞羞 (xiū xiū): shy x2. Very fitting

Cheese: i looked it up, and the toxin (tetrodotoxin, TTX for short) the blue-ringed octopus carries really is one of the most potent toxins on Earth. Wikipedia backs up the information the author mentions in this chapter, such as the amount of venom being capable of killing 26 humans (within minutes!)

Some of you might actually know of TTX if you’ve read any articles about eating pufferfish or sushi chefs preparing pufferfish to eat. Some species of pufferfish also secrete TTX! Which is why only the best and most careful sushi chefs even dare to try preparing pufferfish for consumption, because a single mistake, and you could rupture the fish’s poison sac and ruin the entire platter (and kill the customer, of course). Expensive and deadly, an exhilarating combination
