SMVB Chapter 71

Are you coming?

At Imperial City Police Station, Ji Shaoheng was about to clock off when he received a call. The caller ID displayed was Old Zhao from the Traffic Bureau, a fellow aquarium enthusiast and a close friend of Ji Shaoheng’s.

“Officer Zhao, what are your orders?” Ji Shaoheng greeted jokingly.

Old Zhao: “I heard you got a peppermint angelfish from the aquarium…”

Ji Shaoheng cut in quickly, “Don’t even think about it. That’s my lifelong treasure.”

Old Zhao: “Alright, alright. I was going to say that I’ve found some traces of the thing you asked me about a few days ago…”

Ji Shaoheng immediately retracted his lackadaisical appearance, his nerves tensing. “Zhao dage, please speak.”

Old Zhao spat contemptuously, “Last night at eight, a license plate with 帝A-XXXX1 got off the highway at the intersection for Luocheng. If I’m not wrong, the one inside should be President Su.”

Ji Shaoheng cursed in his heart, and he quickly thanked the other party before hanging up.

Old Zhao: “Ah ah ah, wait-! There’s something else, want to listen?”

Ji Shaoheng: “Speak.”

“That peppermint angel…”

Ji Shaoheng, searching frantically for his car keys, retorted angrily, “You’re still coveting this Daddy’s fish? …It depends on your information. Spit it out.”

Old Zhao: “I did it on a whim a few days ago. I heard you have your eyes on President Su’s wife, and I figured you’ll need to butter up your mother-in-law, right? So I looked it up in passing to see if your mother- and father-in-law’s car was ever logged, and…”

Ji Shaoheng jumped up from his chair, asking nervously, “My mother-in-law is there too?”

Old Zhao: “Left two days ago, and there’s no record of a return trip. They should still be in Luocheng.”

Ji Shaoheng; “Zhao dage, Zhao dage, you are my benefactor! A great benefactor! This is life-saving information.”

Old Zhao: “That peppermint…”

Ji Shaoheng: “Mere words aren’t enough to express my gratitude! Stop by my house and take a look, as much as you like.”

As for giving it–-impossible.

Old Zhao cursed jokingly, “Get outta here, you little grandson.”

Ji Shaoheng chuckled. Without even taking off his police uniform, he walked out of the police station with his car keys in hand.

He was initially going to directly take the highway to Luocheng, but when Ji Shaoheng got in the car, he turned the steering wheel in the direction of the Institute of Biology.

He parked in front of the doors and called the little brat. “I’m going to Luocheng. Are you coming?”

Yu Cai was in the middle of leading a team in an experiment when he received the call. He froze for a moment before quickly replying, “I’m going. Give me ten minutes.”

Ji Shaoheng: “Five minutes. Hurry up.”

Yu Cai: “Eight, I need to get something.”

Ji Shaoheng: “Deal.”

Throwing behind the sentence, “Continue,” he found the thing he had prepared under the helpless and blank gazes of the other people in the laboratory. Then he slung his backpack over his shoulder and sprinted downstairs.

The youth ran over, panting, and climbed into the car. He asked, “Time?”

Ji Shaoheng checked his watch. “Seven minutes and fifty-three seconds. Pretty decent.”

He glanced over at the youth’s backpack. “What did you bring?”

Yu Cai tapped the corner of his mouth. He was about to answer when he suddenly realized: “I’m not wearing a mask!”

The allergy on his face had been treated, but he was afraid and didn’t dare to tell Tiantian that Ji Hang was Yu Cai, so he could only continue to don a face mask.

Ji Shaoheng: “…Buy another one on the road.”

Since seeing Su Tian and Liu Kaiyan appearing on 《Legal Hotline》 together, Su Yuhe had tasked people with locating Liu Kaiyan’s residence. Finally, he made time to rush to Luocheng overnight.

Unfortunately, the people had been found, but he couldn’t even step across the threshold–He Qingwan had shut him out.

The weather was cold enough to freeze people to death. Su Yuhe lingered in the corridor for a while before retreating downstairs into the car due to the unbearable cold.

The car had heating, so he could wait for Tiantian downstairs first.

After finally waiting for Tiantian to finish class, the first thing to greet him was a snowball to the face.

The melted snow slid down his neck, chillingly cold.

Wang Haoxue and Liu Kaiyan looked at Su Tian, then at Su Yuhe, and then at each other. This person wouldn’t make trouble for Tiantian, right?

Su Tian reassured them. “It’s okay, this is my mom’s ex-husband. You guys go ahead first.”

Mom’s ex-husband?

The two understood–wasn’t that a dad? Why say it in such a troublesome way?

But neither of them asked. After saying goodbye to Su Tian, they quickly gave a “Goodbye, uncle,” and went back.

Su Yuhe’s face sank at Su Tian’s introduction. “Tiantian, why do you call me your mother’s ex-husband? I’m your dad.”

Su Tian didn’t argue with him. She asked, “Why are you here?”

Su Yuhe looked a bit embarrassed. “Waiting for you to get out of school.”

He spotted the backpack Su Tian was carrying and extended a hand. “Isn’t it cold? Come, let Dad help you…”

Su Tian declined. “No need. …It’s almost New Year’s, aren’t you busy?”

Su Yuhe’s heart warmed at this question. “Busy, but no matter how busy I am, I should come and greet you and your mother. And you two–honestly, coming to such a small town, what does this look like?”

Su Tian: “We’re fine. You should go back. Auntie Zhou will be anxious if you don’t return at night.”

Su Yuhe’s eyes darkened at the mention of Zhou Lan.

Since his visit to the police station last time, he had really become… more and more impatient with Zhou Lan.

What annoyed him most was that he discovered Zhou Lan beginning to hide away private property and money.

He was just playing with his money, and Zhou Lan’s little tricks simply looked stupid and ridiculous in his eyes. And so, she looked increasingly repulsive.

He could admit that he had never been strict over money with Zhou Lan. He would never ask about what she wanted to buy. But that woman actually bought funds and real estate behind his back, all in the name of her parents and younger brother.

He couldn’t bother to quarrel with her, so he just came to see Tiantian and He Qingwan and to relax in passing.

Su Yuhe: “It’s alright. I’ve already informed your auntie that I’ll be going back tomorrow.”

Su Tian smiled and pointed to the road ahead. “Follow this road for a thousand meters, turn left, and walk another five hundred meters, and you’ll arrive at the best hotel in the county.”

For a moment, Su Yuhe was incredulous and a bit hurt. “…Tiantian, you’re letting Dad stay in a hotel?”

Su Tian looked up at him with doubts in her eyes. “You and my mom have already divorced. If you don’t stay at a hotel, could it be that you want to stay in our home?”

Under the street lamps, the girl’s eyes were a clear black. Su Yuhe inexplicably felt embarrassed under his daughter’s gaze.

From the moment of their meeting to now, every word Su Tian said made him feel chilled and ashamed. ‘My mom’s ex-husband,’ ‘stay in a hotel,’ ‘our home’…

These words made him clearly understand that Tiantian no longer considered him a part of her family.

Su Yuhe fell into a daze. He and Zhou Lan had been an accident. He didn’t expect that Zhou Lan would get pregnant that time.

At that time, Zhou Lan was young and didn’t even know that she was pregnant at first. When she found out later, she was already four months along. The doctor said that abortion was impossible, and she could only give birth.

Later…

Later, he gradually gained more interest in Zhou Lan and that child. And after that, he wanted to bring Pengpeng back home.

Thinking about it now, he really regretted it.

If he had forced Zhou Lan to abort the child, even if he had to compensate her more… no, if he hadn’t had that accident, wouldn’t his family still be well now?

Su Tian was beginning to feel cold out in the snow. She stamped her feet, saying, “I’ll be leaving first. Goodbye.”

“Tiantian…”

Su Yuhe anxiously called out. When she turned back, he said, “…At least, let Dad come in and sit for a while? I… I miss you and your mother.”

That wasn’t necessary?

The words of refusal had already reached her lips when her phone suddenly rang. Su Tian checked and saw that it was the little gege from Uncle Ji’s family.

【Tiantian, Ji Shaoheng and I will be there in half an hour. We brought food to feed the baby fish.】

Su Tian blinked. Swallowing her words, she lifted her head and smiled at Su Yuhe. “Okay, follow me.”

Su Yuhe was overjoyed. He quickly straightened his clothes, wiped off the water droplets from his glasses, and fixed his messy hair.

At the very least, he didn’t want to look disheveled in front of He Qingwan.

[1] Looked this up because I was curious. Typical license plates in China go like: 1 character denoting province, 1 letter from the pinyin alphabet, and 5 letters/numbers (Source: Wikipedia)

Cheese: sounds like tiantian is formulating a diabolical plan to chase off her mom’s ex-husband using the new, younger, more handsome(?) prospective boyfriend/aspiring hubby

  1. Su Yuhe’s thoughts are disgusting. The fact that your mistress conceived isn’t the problem, it’s the fact that you were unfaithful in the first place.

And then he has the gall to think it would have been better to abort his own child– a child that he personally knows as a unique individual in the present.

    Poor kid.
